What is Drifting Dunes Scrapbook Retreat?

We are an escape designed for scrapbooking, quilting & other crafting enthusiasts.   It is a place to get away and create.

What time is check-in and check-out for retreat weekends?

To allow you the most time to create, check-in is noon on Friday and check-out is by 6 PM on Sunday. Additional nights can be added to your weekend at a discounted rate of $250 per night.

Do you allow non-scrapbookers?  We don’t craft, but would like to rent your house for a family gathering. Is this OK and do you have cribs and high chairs?

We welcome groups of all types, and do not discriminate against non-crafters. We are able to provide 2 high chairs, 2 portacribs/pack-&-plays, and stair gates upon request. We also can provide the contact information for a reliable childcare service.

What are the sleeping accommodations? Will I have to share a bed or sleep on the top bunk?

At our Grand Haven location, there are 3 bedrooms with 10 single beds total, so no one shares a bed. A common full bathroom is located in the hallway for the three-person rooms. The four-person room has an en suite full bath.

At our Augusta location, there are 5 bedrooms with 9 single beds and 2 queen beds. There are 4 full bathrooms.

Do I need to bring bedding/linens?

Each bed is made with fresh, clean sheets, a crisply covered comforter, a throw and pillows. Additionally each guest receives a set of plush bathroom towels. It is not necessary to bring these items unless you prefer your own. Additional pillows, blankets and towels are also readily available.

What dining options are offered for retreat weekends?

Your reservation at Drifting Dunes is for a self-serve group retreat weekend. This means that we do not provide meals. Drifting Dunes comes with a fully equipped kitchen with appliances (including an electric skillet and several slow cookers), cookware, dinnerware, and silverware available for use. There is plenty of space for guests to store their food in the cupboards and refrigerator. Guests prepare meals around their schedule. How much time you spend in the kitchen is up to you. There are also options for dining out or catering in. Common non-perishable necessities such as salt/pepper, basic spices, sugar, cooking spray, cooking oil, flour, oats, Splenda, coffee, tea are available.

Do you allow smoking or pets?

Drifting Dunes is a non-smoking and pet-free facility. Smoking is permitted outside. We do not allow pets on the property.

Do I need to be in a group or can I come by myself?

We think your privacy is important, so we only rent to one group each weekend. It’s up to you if you want to come with just a couple of friends or fill all the beds.

What if we don’t have a group of ten?

Your group can be any size that you desire. Simply divide the rental cost between each of your friends to get the cost per person. Once you book a weekend, you are responsible for the full amount regardless of how many you have coming.

Is Drifting Dunes only available on the weekend?

Drifting Dunes is also available for mid-week rentals, and you can add days onto your weekend.

How do I make a reservation?

Confirm the date that you want is available by checking the calendar page, then contact us . When we tentatively assign your date, we will provide you with instructions for payment and signing the leasing agreement. YOUR RESERVATION IS NOT OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED UNTIL YOUR DEPOSIT AND SIGNED CONTRACT ARE RECEIVED.

Do I need to sign a contract to stay at Drifting Dunes?

Yes. A signed contract is due within 7 days of making your reservation.

I can’t find your address, why is the address to the Drifting Dunes Retreat not listed on the web site? Where are you located?

To respect the privacy of the guests currently enjoying their retreat, we do not publish the address of Drifting Dunes. Once your reservation is confirmed, you will be sent the address and directions to Drifting Dunes. We are located between Grand Haven and Holland just a short walk from Buchanan Public Beach. Buchanan Beach is a small beach with easy access along the sand dune. It has limited parking spaces and no restroom, limiting its use to our nearby neighbors.

What if we run out of supplies?

Guests must bring their own crafting supplies. Local craft stores are available within a half-hour drive. Groceries and other items you need can be purchased at nearby superstores Meijer or Walmart.

How much space is there for each person to work?

Each guest will have their own 6ft table, with lamp, power outlets and USB port. We also have free high speed Internet.

Do we have to clean before we leave?

The owner arranges for the home to be thoroughly cleaned after check out. Please tidy up after yourself as you would at home, but don’t feel like you need to clean before you leave.

When is payment due?

For weekend retreats, a non-refundable down payment of $400 is required to rent the house. Your down payment will be applied toward your balance. The remaining balance is due 60 days prior to check in. If we are unable to collect the remaining balance by this time, your reservation may be cancelled and any deposit paid will be forfeited.

Are alcoholic beverages allowed?

Although we are not allowed to serve you alcohol, you are welcome to bring your favorite beverage to enjoy during your stay.

What about blow dryers, are they provided?

Yes. We have blow dryers in each bathroom.

What is available for me to do if I want to take a break from my craft?

We have much to offer. Take a walk on the bike path that traverses the front of the property down to the shore at the public beach. Rosey Mound Natural area is a short drive or bike ride north. The area offers plenty of restaurants and shops.

I see you have a fireplace, do we need to bring wood for our weekend?

We provide firewood for your use.

Do I need to bring toiletries?

While you may choose to bring your own products, we provide Shampoo, Conditioner, Shower Gel, Hand Soap and Lotion for your use.

What additional fees will I need to pay?

We add 6% sales tax to the cost of your reservation.

Where do we park?

We have space for 10 cars in the driveway and parking area and have a plow driver do snow removal and sidewalk shoveling.

What if our group needs to cancel?

Our cancelation policy is as follows;

Your $400 down payment is non-refundable.
The remaining balance is refunded per the following schedule.

100% refunded for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
