A Grand Day Out at Meijer Gardens

We recently paid a visit to the Lena Meijer Children’s Garden in Grand Rapids. It is part of the larger Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park. It’s only 50 minutes from Drifting Dunes!

We had a blast exploring all of the exhibits, including the Great Lakes Garden,  Treehouse Village and Wooded Wetlands, where the kids played in a pretend, life sized beaver’s set.

If you visit in March and April, you can visit the annual “Butterflies Are Blooming” temporary exhibition which features thousands of tropical butterflies from Central and South America, Africa and Asia, flying free around you in the giant tropical conservatory. So cool!

It’s difficult, in these days of iPads and Netflix, to find new, exciting things to do as a family that also include physical activity. After our day of running, jumping, crawling, touching and smelling our way through so many things at the Gardens, we drove home to Grand Haven absolutely exhausted. We can’t wait to return in June when their Children’s Garden Summer Activities begin.
